We girls love shopping, it’s true!
The sale gives us an opportunity to make some serious savings. Having said that, we all would agree that when we go shopping, the whole idea of “sales shopping” engulfs our brain and our spending spirals out of control.
Below are some quick tips on how to get the most out of this seasons sales.
I use dress/shoes/clothes sales interchangeably below. The rules apply to all kinds of sales.
Make a wish-list
Do a wardrobe audit. Sort your clothes by color & style and search for gaps in your collection. Write this out into a wish list. This can include essentials as well as love to have items. This will help you shop intelligently.
Set your budget
The sale at our favourite store hypnotises us into believing that we are always getting a good deal. But often we spend on items not on sale while picking up stuff which is on sale. Sale or No Sale always work with a budget and then stick to it.
Don’t fall for the Low Price Trap
Often we end up buying clothes that don’t fit our taste simply because it is on sale. And we never wear that turquoise dress do we? Beware of this Low-Price Trap!
Get the fit right
The Mantra is to try every outfit or pair of shoes that you plan to pick. It should fit you right. Don’t buy clothes in anticipation of getting thin or fat. If it doesn’t fit or flatter, it’s truly not worth it, even if it is at one-fifth the price.
Know what suits you
It is very important to know what suits your body type. Do not let the latest trends control your shopping. If you buy a dress that doesn’t suit you then you have not got a bargain. Find your Style and shop for towards it.
If you wish to shop for a top that goes well with your special white jeans, either wear those pants or carry them. If you are looking for a particular neckline or a dress, make sure you wear the apt brazier. For those who wear a lot of heels, I would advise that you do keep your heels in your bag to check relative proportions of the dress and heels when trying different garments. Go prepared!
Buy three, give one away!
Well don’t be too greedy! When you buy clothes on sale, give away your old clothes to an orphanage or a shelter.
Quality over Quantity
It’s always better to buy 1 high quality top than picking 3 low-quality tops which will not last beyond 2 wash cycles. A good check is to ask yourself if you would have paid full price for the same dress. If the answer is a yes, then go ahead and buy it. Always pick quality over quantity!
Go comfortably dressed
When going for shopping in general, you do not want to be dressed in say tight jeans or layered clothes. Wear comfortable loose clothes so that you can slide in and out of them easily and wear easy to remove footwear. Avoid wearing accessories which may trouble you when you are trying clothes.
Shopping during the sales can get very tiring, especially when you are fighting the crowd. Enjoy shopping and you will see style options and ideas you would otherwise have missed. It is important to enjoy shopping, and why not, trying new clothes and finding that amazing bargain is quite a kick!
